Sandrina’s Dancing to the Drum Workshop

What a weekend!  I was fortunate enough to have 12 fabulous participants in my first Dancing to the Drum workshop and I must say, it was totally inspiring to watch these ladies take on this challenge!  Many had only just finished their first or second set of lessons and one brave soul had never even studied belly dance before, (but did have other dance experience) and I’m glad I stretched the rules for this passionate participant!

My middle-east percussionist Lee helped make the workshop what it was.  He kept me on schedule and as he ripped up the doumbek, these ladies ripped up the floor!  Along with learning five different Middle- Eastern rhythms, clapping them out and then going through hip-heavy dance combinations, this group sweated it out, completing an entire drum solo choreography and taking it all in stride with just one break in 3 hours.  Impressive!

Many thanks to all the participants whose positivity and strength made the energy so great that afternoon.  You are an inspiration to all those who only contemplate taking bellydance to a higher skill level, because every one of you accomplished that today!

Thanks also especially to Heather, Jaquie, Tahn, Camille and Glenda:   those energetic participants who, after the workshop, came out to Theo’s Greek restaurant to watch me perform the same drum solo as part of my performances there that evening.   Okay, I was a wee bit disappointed I didn’t see any of you jump up to join me - but when I over-heard the statements of sore muscles, I didn’t have the heart to force you out of your comfy seats and leave those much deserved cocktails!

Be sure to regularly check the Instruction section for updated scoop on additional workshops/ lessons to come.
